TMPEG DivX 6.8 Encoding
Website: DivX and TMPEG
We used the latest version of TMPEG 4.5.2.255 and DivX 6.8, and encoded a 980MB 720x480px 4-8k VBR MPEG-2 video with 48KHz PCM stereo sound into a 320x240px DivX under the "Mobile" profile with a single pass, with 112kbps LAME .MP3 joint stereo sound. This included setting multi-threading and SSE2/4 where possible in the DivX settings.

Relative Percentage (Normalised to 100%)
With TMPEG 4 and DivX 6.8 we see the Core i7 920 overclocked to 4GHz again top the table at nearly an 84 percent relative positive value over the baseline, however the E8400 overclocked to 4GHz with its large cache and SSE4 does very well here also, and even despite its two core deficit over the overclocked Q6600 it still strikes up a 20 percent difference, at a 68 percent relative positive. All the Core i7's are into the high positives too, as are more of the Intel Core 2 CPUs that are intermingled with the AMDs, which respectively turn out lower value than in previous tests - TMPG prefers single thread performance, SSE4 if possible and memory bandwidth over simply masses of threads.

The Core 2 Duo E8400 overclocked to 4GHz with
DDR3 surprisingly tops the table here, even over the cheaper DDR2 platform it's a good 20 percent better value, as the increase in performance is overwhelmingly better than the extra cost of motherboard and memory. Actually, all the DDR3 boards in general seem to do better off in all accounts here.
The Core i7 920 overclocked to 4GHz is not far behind at a huge 92 percent relative positive, however all the Core i7's are not bad 10-28 percent in the plus compared to the baseline.
Yet again, all the AMD's are in the positive too, which is continually great news for the green team.
